Nkom Bivoué - Zeun Ya Yop
In het spoor van de door het Belgische Rebel Up! Records verdeelde Before Zeun Ya Yop EP, volgt nu ook Nkom Bivoué's nieuwe langspeler. Twee van de drie tracks op de EP (titelnummer Zeun Ya Yop en opener No Lele, een vocale versie van de instrumental op Before Zeun Ya Yop met de Ghanees Sizeless op vocals) zijn ook hier in de tracklist terug te vinden. Ook voor andere tracks werkte Nkom samen met gastvocalisten als PH, een naar Kameroen uitgeweken Congolees (Never Give Up), de Kameroense r&b- en afrobeats-artiest Vankings (Baale Ma) en rapper Krys Kofi, een opkomend talent in Kameroen (After The Shift). En met de remix van Interstellar Anthem, zorgt Bivoué voor een nieuwe versie van de in 2019 verschenen single. Wij hadden het op Zeun Ya Yop vooral voor de bezwerende trance van instrumentale en semi-instrumentale nummers als Tantra, Unconditional Love, de remix van Interstellar Anthem en natuurlijk titelnummer Zeun Ya Yop, composities die je zo naar een ander universum transporteren.
Inhoudelijk gaat achter Zeun Ya Yop echter nog een hele filosofie schuil: "Once we are born on this planet Earth, we are conditioned. We are in a program, a matrix, an illusion, a prison, a farm, virtual reality, a movie, a simulation, without exaggerating: we are born in hell! The dice are loaded in advance, we are here to obey the spirit of the human collective, the gregarious spirit of the planet, we are here to follow the direction of the wind. As soon as you are aware of this, you will be driven by an enormous desire to discover reality. And this is the beginning of your "zeun ya yop", the beginning of your path to awakening! In Beti language, "zeun ya yop" means "the road that leads to heaven". It is the path that is reserved for all those who want to get out of the program, for all those who want to express their freedom to be, to act, to create and to co-create!".
Wat dan die hemel betreft wordt Nkom heel concreet: "In the capitalist sense heaven is to succeed by aquiring material wealth. On a religious level, heaven is the kingdom of God where the just souls stay after death. But Sirúnians conceive heaven in two ways: firstly, it is a place where peace, happiness and abundance reign, and secondly, it is a state of inner bliss that one reaches once one is well advanced on the path of ascension.".
